Complacency. There is actually room for a lot of improvement, but people seem to be happy with what we have going on right now. The issues that are most obvious to me are not really being discussed.
We're all waiting for Mauro to come back and lead us to the promised land. My question is, how long will he last this time? Is Mauro the equivalent to a boxer with a glass jaw? Did we screw ourselves by signing him to a DP contract only to see him play a few minutes this year?
We still don't have forwards that can put the ball in the net with any regularity. Estrada was playing a midfield wing position in a 4-5-1 when he got his hat-trick. Everyone keeps telling me how exciting EJ is gonna be. I thought he stunk Saturday. These fabulous runs he was making surely didn't catch my eye.
In my mind, we are winning ugly right now. Houston, San Jose, DC and Colorado have all been pretty boring matches as far as good soccer are concerned.
How's that for stirrin' the shit???

Sounder Legends over the years. John Rowlands, Tjeert Van't Land, David Butler, Geoff Hurst, Mike England, Roger Davies, Mark Peterson, Sebastien LeToux, Kasey Keller, Roger Levesque and LAMAR FUCKING NEAGLE!!!
Also, I was dogging Nate Jaqua BEFORE dogging Nate Jaqua was cool.

The team is pretty much what I expected right now, Brilliant when healthy, ugly but good enough when all our guys made of glass are out. Johannson Rosales Evans EJ all have a history of injury problems, but we continually add these kind of players year in year out, and don't have a backup plan for when they're out. (Roger Carrasco Scott etc.) Hurtado seems like he may be turning into one of those guys as well. Seems like a lot of Sounder fans like to give a lot of crap to Montero and Fernandez for not putting up the numbers and hustle they expect from they're DPs, but man that's got to be hard to do when you never know who's going to be starting around you week in and week out. I can't wait for the league to get rid of the salary cap, so this team won't have to give major minutes to guys like Scott, Roger, Noonan, Vagnas, etc. every year.

Noticable lack of traffic. Just nothing to talk about that hasn't already been mentioned. I agree with both tmac and Tjeert. We're not playing great ball, yet we're winning. The San Jose match should have probably ended a tie, but dems da breaks.
I think it is also a reaction to the previous two years when we have struggled out of the gate and any criticism was met with rah, rah bullcrap and unicorns etc.

We are not playing perfect soccer I agree. I will say this is the best we have looked to start since year one. EJ starts and Montero got space on the ball and had several good shots on goal. Not a coinkydink in my mind. Was EJ perfect no but I see a guy who with better service will be a good striker for us. Ochoa is probably a better hold up guy than EJ but he needs to lose the weight and hopefully gain a step or 2.
Mauro is a concern and if the league/ref's allow to him to be mugged like he was on that tackle that injured him we could be in trouble as far as a playmaker.
I don't consider myself a polyanna unicorn and jolly rancher guy so i do see the need for improvement but I do see guys that with minutes will do just that in EJ & Ochoa plus Caskey & Estrada. They are trying to play creatively not just put the head down and run past someone all the time.

I don't think there is much to talk about, because so far there results have been about what I would have expected given the injury problems the team has. I don't think there are too many things we can come on here screaming about saying needs to be fixed. Are we going to say Carrasco should be playing instead of Evans? Scott showing he is a servicable player in this league will be replaced when Johanson returns. We may or may not be able to stayy healthy, but if they do I think this team is showing they will have a shot at the supporters shield.

Squad depth key as Sounders grinding out results
"...Such is life on a team that has used different starting lineups in all five of its games and given 19 players at least one start this season. No MLS team has started more players...
...The depth has been particularly tested on the defense, where seven different players have started..."
