When Kenn Tomasch posted the blog entry below earlier today, he did so in a way that cleverly told us what name he had heard was the 'final' choice for Seattle MLS.
Since then he has cleverly taken off the bold lettering that spelled out Emerald City Greens.
I’ve heard what is supposedly the final, decided-upon name for Seattle’s new MLS expansion team that begins play in 2009. If it’s true, it’s stupid. So stupid, in fact, that it makes Real Salt Lake seem inspired. I know the powers that be have this notion that “Seattle Sounders,” as historic and seemingly appropriate as it is to a lot of soccer fans and Seattleites, connotes “minor league soccer” (as the Sounders have been a USL team for the last 13 years). But this name, which will have half the people saying “Where do they play?” and the other half going “I’m supposed to cheer for that?” is just inane. Hopefully they’ll come to their senses before an announcement is made. Or, like Houston 1836, they’ll be forced to come to their senses after the fact.

OK, based on what Kenn is saying between the lines, "Seattle" is out ("where do they play?").
That would be a stunner.

i dont believe it. we have owners who know the sport, and doubt they would let something like that happen

read the blog carefully you might notice some letters in bold hint hint. If reading it correctly and its accurate the shit is going to hit the fan big time.

Hold on now...just a rumor!
However, if it is true, they are 'forcing' the name "Greens" a bit. Sure Toronto fans now call their club 'the Reds,' but it might have been nice to let that also develop for Seattle, oops I mean Emerald City, fans...too.
We might have very well gone on to call them the "Greens," though I doubt it.

If you're just joining the party, it looks like Kenn took off the 'bold' marks around the letters in his blog post that is featured at the top of this thread. Before he did, they highlighted the letters that spell out...
"Emerald City Greens."
So, we are deducing that's the name he was told is the final Seattle MLS club name choice.
Still just a rumor, people...

This is a total insult if this is true. It will ruin soccer for me. I don't want to root for a local team with such a shitty name. Christ, are these people on drugs? Soooooo out of touch.
