Funny, I don't think Matt Massey or Matt Gaschk would have made that mistake. Looks like a new era for the local mainstream soccer media. One where you can't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

The real question is will they issue a correction?

| The answer to that would be no. What the hell do they care, we're just a bunch of "girly soccer fans" in their minds. Hell, they didn't even issue a retraction when they lost the lawsuit the ILWU filed against them, in '71, for the same thing: a reporter too lazy to do a little research, and writing a story with wrong information. And an editor that could care less if the story is correct, or not.

That's really not a big mistake, just lazy researching. If it does become a pattern, yeah, we can start taking Romero to task. But I'd give him the benefit of the doubt for now. **I'll amend that - emailing him and politely letting him know about his mistakes might not be a bad idea. Hold the writers to a higher standard and we get better Sounders press coverage.

Jose's a good guy, and he'll learn, hopefully. The frustration comes more from the decisions made by the mainstream media to hire people who haven't cared about soccer in Seattle ever, when they had people who have covered the team for years on their payroll and choose to let them go.

I don't fault Romero for being fooled by an error on the o-fish-ul MLS bio page. I do fault the Houston PR manager for allowing such a gross error to appear on Jaqua's bio page.
Romero has written several articles that I've enjoyed. I hope he keeps his ink flowing.

This guy might be beyond the reaches of MLS at this point, but maybe he wouldn't object to playing in Seattle for a few seasons rather than Denmark. I thought he was still in England. And his brother could put a good word in for our city...

That article mentions a guy who I've been interested in for a while... Cassio, a Brazilian left back/wing playing for Adelaide currently. He's good technically, and very offensive-minded for a defender. And he'd probably be relatively cheap....

More rumors sent my way...
From the Sounders FC rumor mill: Inside talk has been passed along to us so we are passing it right along to you. Is Freddie Ljungberg a possible Designated Player option? Apparently the club are looking seriously at him.
The latest on Colombian striker Freddy Montero is that he played for his national team in their 1-0 loss to Paraguay on Saturday. Our source says his coming to Seattle is a 'done deal' and that is in part why Hanauer and Henderson have been to South America so often recently.
Meanhwile, on the head coaching front, it has been passed along to us that the 'hold-up' with naming Brian Schmetzer the first coach is over concern that the club does not want the first year or two to be 'on the job training' for their coach. They want to make the playoffs and contend in 2009. There is discussion not about if Schmetzer could eventually be a top MLS coach, but how soon. There is also a growing feeling that Columbus Crew will 'break the bank' to hang on to Sigi Schmid.

I really hope the club can find a way to get two DPs or zero. Because I think that there is a certain level of risk aversion if there is only one slot.
If they have two and go after Ljunberg and he is truly finished at least we could have a second star on the roster to mitigate the potential loss.
But if they sign so many Forwards, Wings and CAMs they are going to have to run some intriguing formations, maybe a 4-1-1-4 or something

With non-USL Sounders players they will likely have to wait until the League meeting in November as there are several details that are very much up in the air, to include the following;
Expansion Draft Salary Cap Number of DPs Schedule/Table format PPC/SL Allocation/Discovery systems
All of those effect the activities of Sounders FC on the roster front and so I would expect some slower news for the next 6 weeks.

These 'rumors' are from people who can't confirm (outside of the club) but 'have heard.'
So some of them may turn out to be accurate, while others will not.
