My online translator says that Freddie is in Sweden but will fly to Seattle this weekend and hopes to play in the first game against NYRB:
"Ljungberg and his childhood friends have gone on Gaston in all years.
- He is one of our friends here, "said Grgic.
Ljungberg has recently not only been in Halmstad for doing business. He has also taken the help of physiotherapist Simon Bakkioui who works for Halmstad BK and feel "Freddie" for a long time.
This weekend returning Ljungberg to Seattle and a week ago he told me that he has high hopes to play in Seattle the premiere March 19."

I can confirm that the online translation is accurate.
Of course "to play" and "to start" are two different things. Even getting less than 30 minutes out of him at the end would be great.

I'd love to see Freddie on the pitch, but don't expect it.

Vs. NYRB, bring him on at the 80 minute mark when we have a 3-0 lead, let the love-fest begin.
Our wait is only 4 weeks from Thursday. I can't wait!

I agree. I've sort of always liked those late-game substitutions. Not that they always make a game impact, but they play an important role in giving young players confidence, giving a nod to the veterans, letting the fans see who they want to see, give players a run even if they are not at 100%, etc. etc.
My hope is that we don't rush his recovery too much as to be detrimental, but that we do get a nice 10-15-20 minutes from him at the end. The fans will love it, and it will be a boost to his confidence.

Update! Freddie is PLAYING!
Thanks to Jonas.
Ljungberg is back playing footie in Sweden. Ever since Ljungberg left West Ham Swedish newspapers has been saying that he will or have been participating in training with his old hometown club Halmstad. If he did or did not I do not know.
However, Swedish news wire service “TT” caught up with him after a daily training session with the soccer club Halmia were he states that he is participating in the daily training sessions with the Swedish division 2 club. He states that Halmstad is in Spain on pre-season training and that his good friends Abbe Hintsa and a few others of the team as well as coach Peter Lindau.
- I am way ahead of the rehabilitation schedule and during regular circumstances the healing process should take four months. This means I need to hold back and not go ahead in full force and end up with a setback.

It is better to be safe then to push things too fast and watch as it takes even longer to heal properly. I hope he is doing things properly to be fully healed and ready to go, even if he misses a few games.

This is great news and I totally agree with asoc on making sure he is healed before he plays in a match.

The article also says that Ljungberg is going to travel to Seattle in two weeks. This means that he'll be able to train with the Sounders for one week before the first game on 3/19, assuming there are no setbacks. That's not a lot, but enough that he could get some minutes at the end of the game on 3/19. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

This bit was a little confusing, but it was clarified to me when I read the original Aftonbladet article. The point is the Freddie was not able to train with his old club Halmstad, because they are in Spain at the moment. He chose to train with Halmia, because he knows some of the players on the team such as Abbe Hintsa as well as coach Peter Lindau.

Today's PI says he'll come to Seattle on March 6. (or maybe it was the 9th? I was reading upside down).

Not sure how I feel about the news that Freddie is currently playing.
If he is playing at all, why not with SSFC, under the supervision of our training staff? I'm sure there are some benefits in being comfortable at home, and taking his time with the Swedish 2nd Division side; but he's missing out on the opportunity to gel with his teammates and begin settling into things with the club.
If I had my way, considering that he's already signed and the "face of the franchise", I'd have him in camp in Argentina, training as appropriate for his injury and developing a connection with the club.
I also agree that he really should not be pushed. He'll be a huge addition to our attack, there is no doubt; but I would much rather see him miss a few matches and get to 100% before attempting to make an impact. The beautiful thing is, we have some players who I think can hold the midfield while he's away.

I agree with the sentiment that he should not be pushed in his recovery, and we would rather have him 100% before he attempting to join the fray. It's a long season.
On the other point I think that it is important to remember that he is a absolute super star (in norther Europe). You don't get on the 50 greatest players list for arsenal at #11 if you are not a super star. That being said, he is a different animal when it comes to certain things (not that i agree). I think that we would like him to be here as soon as he is able to be. The reality is that he may not act, or be treated like a usual MLS talent, and who knows what the FO expects of him in his recovery. It is not unusual for guys in any sport to want to see doctors they know and be in places that they know and are comfortable with during rehab. I would be shocked if he was doing anything else but getting his legs under him in Spain. Remember that he has a lot to prove to us and to the pundits who doubt him. He is a competitor at heart, and all of this is good news. it means he is up and running and could take the pitch on the 19th.

One thing to consider about why Ljungberg is not going to Argentina is that long-haul flights can be quite harmful when you are recovering from an injury.
SSFC09, Ljungberg is not in Spain. Halmstad went to Spain, but Ljungberg did not. He stayed in Sweden and is training with Halmia. Halmstad and Halmia are two different clubs.
