Notes from Sounders FC today:
In addition to John Kennedy Hurtado, there are two other new players in training. Michael Fucito, the team’s fourth-round MLS SuperDraft pick out of Harvard, arrived last week and will make the trip to South America. Also new to the training roster will be Evan Bush, a goalkeeper for the University of Akron the past four seasons. Bush was a teammate of Steve Zakuani the past two years.
Vini Oliveira, the Sounders Super Search winner, is no longer training with the team. Also departing last week was Densill Theobald. Kevin Forrest and Ben Dragavon did not make the trip to Argentina. Dragavon is going to trial with the Austin Aztex of the USL-1 league. Theobald and Forrest had joined training last week. Dragavon has been in camp since the outset.

Wow, I really expected Dragavon to make the team as a developmental player. He's still young enough, & his comments that he really wanted to make the team despite knowing he'd be no more than the 3rd keeper led me to believe he might accept the small dev. salary.
Plus you'd think the club would like to have a 3rd GK but wouldn't want to waste a senior roster spot on one.

maybe the Aztexs made a sweet offer to him and reality kicked in bigger paycheck vs small paycheck. plus the Aztex are owned by a EPl side are they not? could be good exposure plus sounders may have said we want you to play and arranged the trial for him.

The Dragavon one is a bit of a mystery to me. Maybe he just wanted to move to Austin. It has its charms.
Roger's chances appear to be improving with every administrative decision. I was very impressed with his work rate AND his intelligence on Sunday.

The SSFC is not signing three keepers, and as such, have probably told Dragavon that he won't be offered a contract prior to the season.
With the roster changes, I've heard the term "MLS Goalkeeper Pool" referenced a few times. The meaning being all those bubble 'keepers who may have been signed if roster sizes weren't slashed.
But as it is, very few teams will sign three goalkeepers, as the two backups would take up two of only 24 roster spots. Teams will keep their "Goalkeeper Pool" in tact, and sign netminders to short-term contracts in the case of an injury.

You know looking at the list that will travel interesting to note that it doesn't include Peter Vagenas and Jarrod Smith and of course our DP pick but hes in rehab still. I know they are still injured but it makes me have to wonder regarding the final roster list with Vagenas and Smith.

| Drago was born in '83, so is not eligible for a DV slot, since MLS rules say you must be 25, or under, during the CALENDAR year, not the season. http://www.mlsnet.com/about/league.jsp?section=regulations&content=overview
Quote:| Domestic or International and must be 25 years of age or younger during the calendar year of competition. |

| You mean 1 of 20 SENIOR roster spots, don't you? Funny, last year more than half the league had three SENIOR roster 'keepers, with only EIGHTEEN slots. According to someone I spoke to, who is VERY close to the GK situation on the club, the team IS going to keep 3 'keepers. This deal with Drago is probably because of one, or both, these reasons: 1) The Austin offer may have just come up, and the club is fairly certain he'd get more minutes in USL1, and 2) Bush is eligible for a DV slot, while Drago isn't.

Dragavon is not off the team, you wont hear that from Sounders camp. He is on a trial with Austin exploring options to see what is best for him. If Sounders sign a 3rd keeper, more likely a pool keeper, which would function like a 3rd keeper, expect it to be Dragavon.

Drago wanted to get playing time somewhere...straight from the man himself.

mmpeterson44 it may not be Dragavon as the 3rd keeper since he'll take up 1 of 20 senior spots.

It would be a pool keeper spot, which would not count against the senior roster, but would allow him to function as a 3rd keeper, and train with the team.

Any truth to the rumor that Taylor broke his foot and will not be traveling to Argentina?
